New reports have emerged from Italy suggesting that Arsenal could be set to miss out on the signing of QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar as he is set to sign a loan deal with Napoli.
Now it’s worth mentioning at this stage that this isn’t a new story - there has been talk of Napoli being interested for a number of days now - but according to the reports an agreement has now been reached between the clubs and it is now down to Cesar to make a decision. That being said, @Brazilstats tweeted this yesterday [thanks @afc_mj for the heads up]
A number of news outlets are now reporting the same story - but what I’m not sure about is where the source of the information is – as I cant find the original (new) article from Sky Italia that provides more detail than what we knew the other day. It seems as though the widely accepted story though is that Roma want Napoli keeper Morgan De Sanctis and Napoli want Cesar to be his replacement.
Interestingly though - the same paper (the Star) that brought this story to my attention in the first place (different writer) has a different take on the story in another article - even though it is only mentioned for a sentence:
Both viewpoints could be true. Wenger could well have taken a step back to leave the Italian clubs to fight it out. But the interesting thing for me is the last 4 words of that little passage……… “deciding to look elsewhere”. But where? No keeper has been as strongly linked as Cesar and good goalkeepers are very hard to come by. Ideally they would already have a bit of Premiership experience and they would have to be happy to battle to be 1st choice rather than simply expecting to be so. My theory for one of our potential targets therefore is very coincidental – but in an awful lot of ways – he makes sense and fits the bill. Could McCarthy be our goalkeeping target then? Or is it Tim Krul as is being reported on Dutch sites?
I’m simply guessing here and I’m probably adding 2 + 2 together and ending up with 7…… but he certainly ticks a lot of boxes.
